Color Scheme

Wire ships four palettes. All of them are built from a single source — the Accent color you pick in Ghost's own design settings — so the scheme decides how much of that color the page carries, not which color it is.

That is deliberate. Ghost renders the subscribe flow (Portal), comments and search inside frames the theme cannot style; they take their accent straight from your Ghost settings. A theme that shipped its own accent would leave the page and the subscribe button visibly disagreeing. Building every scheme from your accent keeps them the same color everywhere.

Setup Instructions#

Set the accent color first, then choose the scheme.

  1. Go to ⛭ Settings → Design
  2. Click Customize
  3. On the Brand tab, pick your Accent color
  4. Open the Theme tab
  5. Choose a Color scheme
  6. Click Save

The preview updates as you drag the color picker, so you can judge a scheme against several accents before saving.

Available Schemes#

SchemeHow it looks
ClassicNeutral greys throughout. Your accent appears on buttons, links and other interactive elements only. The default
TintedClassic with a wash of your accent through the backgrounds, borders and body text. Noticeable but still quiet
AccentThe whole palette is mixed from your accent. Strongly colored, best with a confident brand color
ContrastPure black on white, with heavier borders. In dark mode the background is true black, which suits OLED screens

Every scheme has a light and a dark version, and the theme picks between them according to your dark mode setting. See Dark Mode.

Button Text#

Text on accent-colored buttons switches between black and white automatically, based on how light your accent is. A yellow or pale accent gets black text rather than the unreadable white it would otherwise carry. There is no setting for this — the theme works it out from the accent.

Notes#

  • Changing the accent color changes all four schemes at once. If a scheme looks wrong, try adjusting the accent before switching schemes.
  • Tinted and Accent take their character from the accent's hue. A near-grey or near-black accent leaves both looking much like Classic — the effect needs a saturated color to show.
  • The scheme has no effect on the colors inside Portal, comments or search. Those follow your accent color directly.
  • Per-tag colors set in Ghost still override the scheme where tags are shown.
