Tips and donations
Wire can show a small donate card in the homepage sidebar: a heading, one line of text, and a Donate button that opens your donation page in a new tab. It is controlled by one setting, and it is hidden until you fill it in.
Setup Instructions#
- Go to ⛭ Settings → Design
- Click Customize
- Open the Theme tab
- Paste your donation link into Donate url
- Click Save
The card appears in the sidebar as soon as you reload the homepage.
Which Link To Use#
The field takes any URL, so you are not tied to one payment provider.

To use Ghost's own tips instead of an outside service, turn on tips and donations under ⛭ Settings → Growth first — Ghost needs Stripe connected before #/portal/support will open anything.
Removing The Card#
- Go to ⛭ Settings → Design → Customize → Theme
- Clear the Donate url field
- Click Save
With the field empty the widget is not rendered at all, and the widgets below it move up to close the gap.
Notes#
- The card lives in the homepage sidebar, so it also needs Show publication info sidebar switched on. See Sidebar widgets.
- The button opens in a new tab, so readers keep their place on your homepage.
- The wording on the card is part of the theme and is translated with the rest of the interface, so it follows your site language.
