Reading preferences

Wire lets each reader tune the way your text is set. A control in the site header opens a small panel with three choices — font size, content width and line spacing — and the theme remembers them for that reader.

There is nothing to configure in Ghost admin. The control ships with the theme and is available on every page.

Where To Find It#

  1. Open your site
  2. Look at the right-hand side of the header, near the search and dark mode buttons
  3. Click the reading preferences icon
  4. The Reading preferences panel opens under the button

Available Settings#

SettingValuesDefaultWhat changes
Font sizeS, M, LMScales the site's text, including the body of a post
Content widthDefault, NarrowDefaultNarrows the reading column, for a shorter line and fewer words per line
Line spacingDefault, RelaxedDefaultOpens up the space between lines in the post body

In the panel, S is Small, M is the default size and L is Large. The currently active option in each row stays highlighted.

How It Is Remembered#

  • Choices are stored in the reader's own browser and reapplied on every page and every later visit.
  • Nothing is sent to your server, and nothing is tied to a member account.
  • The settings live per browser and per device, so the same person gets the default again on a different phone or computer.
  • Clearing browser data resets the reader to the defaults.

Notes#

  • The panel is available to everyone — logged-out visitors, free members and paid members alike.
  • Content width and line spacing are aimed at long-form reading and are most visible on a post or page; font size applies across the site.
  • The reader's choice never changes what other people see, and it does not override your theme settings.
