Archive

The Archive page lists the last hundred posts you published, grouped by month, one line per post. On a desktop the months stand side by side as columns.

Setup Instructions#

  1. Go to Pages → New page
  2. Enter a page title, for example Archive
  3. Open Page settings and change Page URL to archive
  4. Optionally add a short intro in the Excerpt field
  5. Click Publish

Then add the page to ⛭ Settings → Navigation so readers can find it.

The page title and excerpt are only displayed when Show title and feature image is enabled in Page settings. The feature image itself is not shown, and anything you write in the page body is not shown either.

What the Page Shows#

The page takes the hundred most recent posts and starts a new column each time the month changes, newest month first. Each column is headed by the month and the year.

Part of a lineWhere it comes from
DayThe day of the month the post was published
TitleThe post title, linked to the post
TagThe post's primary tag, the first tag in Post settings → Tags when it is public

How many months the page covers depends on how often you publish. A site with five posts a day fills the hundred lines in under three weeks, while a weekly newsletter reaches back two years.

On a landscape desktop screen the columns run sideways across the page, and a long month scrolls inside its own column. On a phone, or when the reader has switched to Scroll in the reading settings, the months stack one under another. See Reading Mode.

Notes#

  • Every published post counts, including posts tagged #newsletter, #project or #breaking. Pages are not listed.
  • Posts older than the hundredth are not on this page. Readers reach them through tag and author archives, the search, and /blog/.
  • The page has no settings of its own. The hundred-post limit is fixed.
  • The From the archive section on the front page is a different feature. It picks one older story for each of several periods, from half a year to more than three years back. See Archive and Newsroom.
