Dark Mode
Every color scheme of Break has a light and a dark version. You choose which one a visitor sees first. Readers can then switch for themselves in the settings panel or with the d key, unless you turn that off.
Setup Instructions#
- Go to ⛭ Settings → Design
- Click Customize
- Open the Theme tab
- Find the Dark mode setting
- Choose an option
- Click Save

Readers Switching for Themselves#
Out of the box, readers can switch between light and dark in two ways:
- the Appearance row of the settings panel, opened from the gear icon in the top bar
- the
dkey
The Dark mode setting then decides only what a visitor sees on the first visit. Once a reader switches, their choice is kept in their own browser and applies to every page and every later visit. See Reading Preferences.
Turning the Switch Off#
To fix the site to your setting, add toggle-dark-mode to Disabled features.
- Go to ⛭ Settings → Design

Notes#
- Ghost's comments follow the scheme of the page, light or dark.
- A visitor who has not switched yet follows a change of their system setting while the page is open, even when Dark mode is
LightorDark. After a reload they see your setting again. - Each color scheme has its own dark version.
