Curated Sections

Four front page sections show the stories your editors pick, not simply the newest ones. You choose the stories by tagging them. Weekend feature and Most read use internal tags. Editor's picks and Long reads use public tags with fixed slugs.

Weekend Feature#

One story shown large on a filled block: its tags, the title, the excerpt and the post's picture as a wide band under them. The author is not shown.

Setup#

  1. Open the post in the editor
  2. Open Post settings → Tags
  3. Type #spotlight and press Enter
  4. Click Publish or Update

If several posts carry #spotlight, the most recently published one is shown. Remove the tag from a post to take it out.

Without any #spotlight post, the section shows the second newest featured post. The newest featured post is already at the top of the page in Featured. With fewer than two featured posts and no #spotlight post, the section is not shown.

Most Read#

A ranked list of up to six stories. Each row shows a large number, the title and the reading time. The head says This week, and the foot shows a Trending line with your five tags that have the most posts.

Setup#

  1. Open each post you want in the list
  2. Open Post settings → Tags
  3. Type #most-read and press Enter
  4. Click Update

The list is ordered by publish date, so the most recently published post is number 1. When more than six posts carry the tag, only the six newest are shown. Remove the tag from older posts to keep the list current.

Without any #most-read post, the section lists your featured posts instead.

The list is not counted from page views. It shows the posts you tag, and the This week label is fixed text. Check your analytics and update the tags to match.

The Trending line lists tags as # followed by the tag's slug, each linking to the tag's archive. It is built from post counts, not from reading figures. Edition tags, whose slug starts with issue-, are left out.

Editor's Picks#

Three picture tiles under a large title. Each tile shows the post's picture, a number, one tag, the title and two lines of excerpt.

The section is built from a public tag with the slug picks. The tag's name is the large title, and its description stands beside it. The section heading itself always reads Editor's picks, and its link, Past picks, opens the tag's archive.

Setup#

  1. Navigate to ⛭ Settings → Tags
  2. Click New tag
  3. Enter the title you want over the picks as the name, for example Three to read
  4. Set the Slug to picks
  5. Optionally, add a Description, for example Every Friday the editors pick three stories worth your full attention.
  6. Click Save
  7. Add the tag to the posts you pick

The three most recently published posts with the tag are shown. The section appears once at least one published post carries the tag.

Long Reads#

Three tall poster cards. Each card shows the post's picture behind the text, the tag at the top, and the title, reading time and date at the foot.

The section is built from a public tag with the slug longreads. The section heading is the tag's name, and the head links to the tag's archive with the label All followed by the name.

Setup#

  1. Navigate to ⛭ Settings → Tags
  2. Click New tag
  3. Enter a name, for example Long reads
  4. Set the Slug to longreads
  5. Click Save
  6. Add the tag to your long stories

The three most recently published posts with the tag are shown. The section appears once at least one published post carries the tag.

Notes#

  • #spotlight and #most-read are internal tags. Type them with the leading #, and Ghost keeps them hidden from readers.
  • picks and longreads are public tags. Type no #. Their posts show the tag like any other, and each tag has its own archive page.
  • A post can be in several of these sections at once, for example in Most read and Editor's picks.
