Opinion
The Opinion section shows your three newest columns side by side, with a quote of the day pulled from the newest one. It is built from a public tag with the slug opinion.
Setup Instructions#
- Navigate to ⛭ Settings → Tags
- Click New tag
- Enter a name, for example
Opinion - Set the Slug to
opinion - Click Save
- Add the tag to each column in Post settings → Tags
The section appears once at least one published post carries the tag.
The slug is what Break looks for, not the name. A tag named Comment
or Columns works, as long as its slug is opinion. Do not type a leading
#. An internal tag has a different slug and is not picked up.
What the Section Shows#
The section heading is the tag's name, so a tag named Comment gives a section called Comment. The head links to the tag's archive with the label All followed by the tag name, for example All Opinion.
The columns#
The three newest posts with the tag stand side by side. Each column shows:
- the writer's picture, name and the publish date at the top, together a link to the writer's page
- the title
- the opening words of the post at the foot
The quote of the day#
Beside the columns, a large quote card shows the Excerpt of the newest column. Under the quote are the writer's picture, name, the date and the column's title, which links to the post.
Write the excerpt as the line you want quoted:
- Open the newest column in the editor
- Open Post settings
- Enter the line in the Excerpt field
- Click Update
Only the newest column is quoted. When its Excerpt field is empty, there is no quote card and the three columns take the full width of the section.
Notes#
- The quote uses the Excerpt field exactly as written. Ghost's automatic excerpt from the start of the post is never used for the quote.
- Readers reach older columns through the All Opinion link, which opens the tag's archive.
- The section is numbered and counted in the bottom bar like any other. See Front Page Overview.
