Watch, Listen, Picture

Three front page sections are built from your media posts. Each one is filled by an internal tag:

SectionTagPosts shown
Watch#videoUp to 4
Listen#audioUp to 6
The picture#photo1

A section with no tagged posts is not shown.

Setup Instructions#

  1. Open the post in the editor
  2. Open Post settings → Tags
  3. Type #video, #audio or #photo and press Enter
  4. Click Publish or Update

All three are internal tags. Type them with the leading #, and Ghost keeps them hidden from readers.

Watch#

The newest post tagged #video is shown large, with the next three as a strip of small cards under it. Each card shows the post's picture with a video badge, one tag, the reading time, the date and the title.

The head links to the /video/ page with the label All video. That page lists up to 24 #video posts, and Break builds it from a page with the slug video. See Live, Video and Podcast to create it.

Tagging a post #video also changes the post itself. The first video in the post moves to the top of the page and keeps playing in a small player while the reader scrolls. See Video Post.

Listen#

The newest post tagged #audio is shown as a cover: its picture with a play mark and a Latest badge, the date, the reading time, the title and a line of excerpt. The next five follow as an episode list, each with a small picture, the reading time, the title and the date.

Every item opens the post, where the audio player is. See Audio Post for how to add audio to a post.

The head links to your site's RSS feed at /rss/. This is the feed of the whole site, not a separate podcast feed.

The /podcast/ page shows the same kind of list for up to 50 #audio posts. Break builds it from a page with the slug podcast. See Live, Video and Podcast.

The Picture#

The newest post tagged #photo is shown as one large card. The photograph fills the card, and the post's tags, title, excerpt and author sit over it. The head reads The picture, with Photo desk on the far end.

Only the newest #photo post is shown. Tag a new photo story and it replaces the previous one. Use a large, landscape feature image, since the card spans the section.

Notes#

  • A post can carry #video or #audio and still appear in the wire, Today and its desk like any other post.
  • The episode labels in Listen count the position in the list, starting from the newest, not an episode number you set.
  • To rename Watch, Listen or The picture, see Section Headings.
