Search
Break uses Ghost's own search. There is nothing to set up. The theme adds a search button to the top bar and a keyboard shortcut, and Ghost does the rest.
Opening Search#
| How | Where |
|---|---|
| The magnifier button | In the top bar, on every page |
The / key | Anywhere on the site |
Cmd+K or Ctrl+K | Anywhere on the site, through Ghost's own search |
The / key does nothing while the reader is typing in a field or has a panel of the top bar open, such as the bookmarks or the menu. Pressing ? opens the settings panel, which lists every keyboard shortcut. See Reading Preferences.
What Search Finds#
The search window, its results and what it looks through all come from Ghost, not from the theme. To make posts easier to find, give them clear titles and write a custom excerpt in Post settings → Excerpt.
Hiding the Search Button#
Break has no setting for the search button. To hide it, add this to ⛭ Settings → Code injection → Site header:
<style>
[data-ghost-search] {
display: none !important;
}
</style>
The keyboard shortcuts still open search after the button is hidden. See Code Injection.
Alternative Search Solutions#
If you need more than Ghost's search, such as filters or typo tolerance on a large archive, services like Algolia can replace it. They need extra setup and usually some custom development.
