Archive and Newsroom

The front page ends with four sections. Three of them fill themselves from your posts, your authors and the reader's own bookmarks. The last one, What do we cover?, has one setting.

From the Archive#

One story from each period of your past, placed on a timeline that ends at Today. The periods are:

  • older than three years
  • two to three years ago
  • one to two years ago
  • six months to one year ago

The oldest period comes first, so the timeline reads from left to right towards today. Each story shows the month and year it was published, its picture, one tag, the reading time and the title. From each period, Break takes the most recently published post.

The section appears only once you have at least one post that is more than 180 days old. A period without any post is skipped, so a site that is a year and a half old shows two stories at most.

The head links to /archive/ with the label Browse the archive. That page needs a page with the slug archive. See Archive.

Newsroom#

The six authors with the most posts, one row each, the busiest first. Each row shows:

  • the author's profile picture
  • the author's name
  • the first sentence of the author's bio
  • the number of stories they have published

The whole row links to the author's page. The head links to /authors/ with the label All authors. See Authors for that page.

Only the first sentence of the bio is shown, up to the first full stop. Start each bio with the author's role, for example Markets editor. Writes about commodities and freight., and the row reads Markets editor.

Profile pictures and bios are edited in ⛭ Settings → Staff.

Reading List#

This section belongs to each reader. It lists the posts they have bookmarked, each with its title and the time it was saved. Readers bookmark a post with the bookmark button on the post, or with the b key while reading it.

Bookmarks are kept in the reader's browser. They need no account, and each reader sees only their own. While a reader has no bookmarks, the section is hidden and is not counted in the section numbering or the bottom bar.

The head links to /bookmarks/ with the label All bookmarks. That page needs the routes.yaml file that ships with the theme. See Bookmarks.

What Do We Cover?#

Up to three large cards, one per tag. Each card shows the tag's image, name, description and the number of articles with that tag, and links to the tag's archive. The head shows how many stories the site has in total.

  2. Click Customize
  3. Click Theme
